This is the Riverside County BAR Association building in downtown Riverside, CA. I began some preliminary research as it may be an upcoming remodel project or possibly a restoration project. It was built in 1929 and opened as the first Montgomery Wards in Riverside.
Spanish clay tile is part of the original design along with the slim columns between the upper windows. But below appears to have been stuccoed over what detailing there may have been. The windows are also part of a 60’s or 70’s remodel. I have yet to find original photos and am awaiting responses from the Historical Society in Riverside. The side of the building is brick that has been painted over.
Downtown Riverside is filled with wonderful architecture. Just a few blocks north is the famous Mission Inn and a block over is the historic county court house. Residential architecture is rich as well.
Hi All
I had to move my site. I was previously using Posterous.com for by business website but they were purchased by Twitter and within a year are now gone. My old site now remains in history on Web Archive
So now I am here using Tumbler.com and will be updating regularly. I have most of the same information but in a different format. Can’t say I am satisfied with this format yet, but there you are. It may change in the future and for now will can be found here.
I still have to figure out how to set up a gallery of projects so that is next. More posts to follow.
